Unbau works as a response to residential defiances of our time. Since the building sector is the primary cause of CO₂ emissons, not-building seems a plain necessity. At the same time we face a growing housing shortage while high amounts of dwelling spaces remain unoccupied. We do not see vacant buildings as voids, but resources for new ways of living, thinking, and inhabiting. Adaptive reuse becomes a way to restore rather than replace. Everything we need is already present: Materials, structures, atmospheres.
